Many purchasers only focus on the total storage capacity when selecting models, ignoring the matching of key parameters. Currently, the standard working pressures for mainstream commercial CNG storage cylinder groups are divided into two levels: 20 MPa and 25 MPa, which are respectively suitable for conventional urban gas filling stations and long-distance mobile gas supply scenarios. Many purchasers tend to overlook the fact that they should not only consider the nominal working pressure but also require the suppliers to provide a report on explosion pressure testing. The explosion pressure of qualified products should be no less than 45 MPa, and the safety margin should be more than 1.8 times. Some small factories reduce the wall thickness of the cylinders to cut costs. Although they seem to meet the nominal pressure standard, when operating under high-pressure conditions for a long time, it will significantly increase the safety risks of leakage or even explosion.

Second, accurately verify the effective storage volume and actual volume.

Many suppliers directly label the total storage volume with the water volume, which is a highly misleading promotional method. Due to the influence of the compression coefficient of natural gas, for a 9-cubic CNG storage cylinder group, the actual effective storage volume under standard conditions is approximately 8.5 cubic meters. When purchasing, the “effective storage volume” must be used as the calculation basis, rather than the simple water volume parameter. At the same time, based on one’s own daily gas consumption and transportation turnover distance, the total storage volume required should be calculated to avoid situations where the storage capacity is too small and leads to insufficient supply, or too large and results in waste.

Thirdly, focus on verifying the material of the bottle body and its structural design.

Currently, the CNG storage cylinder sets available on the market mainly consist of two types of materials: all-steel and glass fiber wrapped metal inner liner.For scenarios where frequent movement is required, the latter has a significant advantage as the weight of the gas cylinder has been reduced by 30%. The materials used for the gas cylinders must meet the standards for low-temperature impact toughness in order to operate stably at a temperature of minus 40 degrees Celsius. In order to ensure the stable operation of the gas cylinder in extremely low-temperature environments, it is also necessary to install a low-temperature heating device. This can effectively prevent potential safety hazards. The container should preferably have three-sided doors, be equipped with rainproof and ventilation designs, so that it is convenient for forklifts and cranes to load and unload, and is suitable for outdoor and open-air storage.

Fourth, strictly confirm the temperature adaptation range and environmental compatibility.

The normal operating temperature range of a qualified CNG storage cylinder group should cover -40℃ to 65℃, which can adapt to the outdoor conditions in most countries and regions. If your usage scenario is located in an area with high salt spray or there is a chemical corrosive medium in the industrial park, you must raise the requirement for anti-corrosion reinforcement to the supplier in advance. Special anti-corrosion spraying treatment should be carried out on the cylinder body and the container frame to avoid the problem of rusting and thinning after long-term use. At the same time, the distance between the cylinder groups during installation should be no less than 1.5 times the cylinder diameter to reserve sufficient ventilation and maintenance space.

Fifth, thoroughly understand the safety configuration and the cost of post-installation maintenance.

Standard products must be equipped with a dual safety protection device consisting of an intelligent pressure relief valve, a rupture disk, and an fusible plug. This device can automatically relieve pressure when there is overpressure or when the temperature reaches around 100°C, thereby preventing accidents at their source. Before purchasing, it is necessary to confirm the regular inspection requirements of the equipment. For compliant products, only a routine hydrostatic test is required every 3 years. At the same time, it is necessary to inquire whether there are corresponding compliant inspection service points in the local area to avoid having no access to subsequent annual inspections and incurring a significant increase in maintenance costs. Also, the accuracy level of the pressure gauge should be confirmed. During normal operation, if the pressure fluctuation exceeds 10%, the equipment should be able to support automatic warning, reducing the risk of human error in manual inspections.
