Liquefied petroleum gas storage tanks are essential storage containers for liquefied petroleum gas stations. On the inclined upper part of some storage tanks, there will be two rows of square plates arranged symmetrically. What is the function of these two rows of plates?
The two rows of square plates on the liquefied petroleum gas tank are named “pre-welded plates” in the drawings. As the name suggests, they are plates that are pre-welded onto the tank body. As is well known, the manufacturing of liquefied petroleum gas storage tanks requires overall post-weld heat treatment. According to the relevant standards for storage tanks, after heat treatment, welding is not allowed on the tank body; otherwise, reheat treatment is necessary. However, this requirement of the standard only applies to pressure-bearing components. Heat treatment is not restricted for non-pressure-bearing pre-welded plate welding.

At the user’s site, for the sake of convenient maintenance or safety considerations, the user may need to install a ladder platform or a spray device on the tank body. The most reliable connection method for these devices to the tank is through welding. However, welding on the heated storage tank is not allowed, so to facilitate the user, our company’s liquefied petroleum gas storage tanks have set two rows of symmetrical pre-welded plates above the tank body. Thus, when the user needs to, they can weld the corresponding devices on the pre-welded plates, and this will not involve any violations that could be investigated.
The above is the introduction about the functions of the pre-welded plates on the liquefied petroleum gas storage tanks. If you have any questions regarding the cryogenic storage tanks, please contact us through the website and we will answer your questions as soon as possible.
